If you’ve ever hovered over a “book class” button and talked yourself out of it, you’re not alone. Feeling nervous to try something new (especially a new workout routine or activity) is totally normal. A lot of women find themselves worrying about not knowing the moves, feeling out of shape, being the only beginner, and even looking silly.
But, at The Hive Dance & Fitness, beginners are not the exception—they are the majority.
Before You Arrive
Dance fitness is unique in that you don’t need special gear or experience. Just yourself, a willingness to try, and a few key essentials and you’ll be a pro in no time.
Here is what we suggest you bring to your first class:
- Comfortable workout clothes
- Supportive shoes (or socks for certain classes)
- A mat (Pilates classes)
- Water
- An open mind
Option (but encouraged): bring a friend!
When You Walk In
When you walk into our dance fitness studio, you will be greeted by our instructors and members. We all remember how it feels to be new! There’s no pressure to perform or keep up. Our movement classes are designed so you can follow along at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and modify movements to your ability.
During Your Class
During your class, you’ll hear cues like:
- “Do what feels good in your body.”
- “This is your workout.”
- “Take the option that works for you.”
These are meant to shift your focus back to the movement, rhythm, and energy of the moment rather than worrying about perfection.
After Class: You Did It!
Once you complete your dance fitness class with us, you can expect to feel energized, proud of yourself for showing up, and more confident than when you initially walked in. Many first-timers are surprised by how quickly nerves turn into smiles.
